Council Contracts – How are they spending your money?

The Tribune Party has a commitment to transparency. We believe that the residents of Great Yarmouth have a right to know how their money is spent and also who receives it.

Below you will find a website link which will allow you to see all current and archived contracts for services issue by our Borough Council. You can easily navigate the site to see where the Council spends money – much of which is your Council Tax.

We do not believe that in all cases the current Borough Council spending decisions are taken in the the best interests of the residents of Great Yarmouth and the town. As an example, a recent decision was made to spend £320,000 on a splash pad on Gorleston seafront. Admittedly this is an attractive addition to the seafront. however we would question the decision to spend such a large sum on a ‘nice to have’ recreation area when the Borough Council tries to do things like shut down public toilets to save small sums of money.

In a town that relies on tourism to survive, perhaps this money would have been better spent on not only keeping the existing public toilets open, but actually adding more. The better the facilities our borough has to offer, the more attractive it will be to visitors. Public toilets are a basic requirement and improvements would benefit the disabled, young families, the elderly and anyone else who needs these facilities, in whichever part of the borough they are visiting.

Needless to say, the above is just an example and we strongly encourage you to follow the link above to the contracts register to look for yourself.  Let us know what you think in the comments!
